The first day of the conference will look at the issues involved in assessing skills, the use of the technology in that process and what are the issues facing managers, teachers and policy makers. The focus of the day will be on the ITES industries but attention will also be given to the wider graduate and non-graduate employability requirements across many industries.

10:00 Opening Plenary Session,
- Formal opening of the event followed by
- Opening Key Note Addresses which will look at the strategic and policy issues underpinning the expansion of skills assessment with particular reference to the needs and requirements of West Bengal in an age of information technology, the web and global markets.
1110 Multiple Streams with delegate choice of stream
Stream 1: What are the challenges facing educational establishments as they prepare students and learners for the 21st century in IT Enabled Services. From entry examinations through classroom and project learning to finals, Schools and Colleges must meet the expectations of students and industry whilst providing a rounded and full education appropriate to the learner, the provision of learning and improvement in attainment.
- Stream 2: The ITES industry faces real problems addressing the twin issues of the perceived skills gap and dealing with the very large numbers in the Indian environment. This stream looks at the particular issues of recruitment and how the technology can help support the process, ensuring that the right candidates are selected for the right roles and positions within industry.

1345 Multiple Streams with delegate choice
- Stream 1: Accessibility is a key issue in the provision of robust and appropriate learning. This session will look at the impact and implications of accessibility across the range from the advent of Disability Discrimination Legislation to the issues surrounding the disadvantaged and excluded.
- Stream 2: Outsourcing from Europe and the US, and from other markets, has proved a great driver for growth. However the requirements to present a skilled and knowledgeable work force to a potential outsourcing customer raise many issues of skills recognition, assessment and development. This steam will examine those issues.
1520 Plenary Session on Innovation and People
- This final plenary session will bring out the issues raised during the course of the day and attempt to put into the Indian context what are the factors driving the need for Skills Assessment and how the technology can help.

Day one of the conference set the scene and explored many of the issues underlying Skills Assessment and the use of technology to support that process. Day Two looks at the success stories with case study presentations from leading organisations from UK and India and demonstrates that solutions are out there and that they can be effectively and efficiently implemented.
0930 Basic elements of Skills Assessment and the use of the Technology
- Policy and the expectations of learners and customers have set a demand that the technology can help companies, educational bodies and government agencies achieve. This plenary session presents the basic tools and techniques and explores how they can be implemented.
11.00 Case Studies
- This stream will hear from suppliers and providers and demonstrate a number of very successful implementations of Skills Assessment and show how these have assisted development of learners and staff.
12:30 Where we going – a look into the future followed by closing remarks from the Chair

An invited audience of participants drawn from the conference will meet in closed session to discuss how the lessons learnt from the Conference can be applied to the West Bengal context.
